Nafiz Albayrak / New York, March 23 () - Preet Bharara, US Attorney for the Southern District of New York who has charged Turkish-Iranian businessman Reza Zarrab for fraud have been in the spotlight of Twitter fans from Turkey.

A Twitter user's question, “You want anything from Turkey? Turkish raki, Shish Kebab, Lokuum, Turkish Carpet. Just ask. We are on your service” went viral as Bharara declined the kind offer, responding, “Well, I do love shish kebab, but I don’t think I can accept gifts just for doing my job . . . ”.

Followers of Bharara increased from around 20 thousands to more than 115 thousand in 24 hours as followers from Turkey surrounded the attorney.

Reza Zarrab has been accused of conspiracy to conduct hundreds of millions of dollars in financial transactions for the Iranian government or other entities to evade U.S. sanctions.

Bharara follows Turkish President Erdoğan

Meanwhile, US Attorney Preet Bharara started to follow the official Twitter account of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following the decision. The Attorney had been following only 13 people and institutions on the social media platform, including the CIA, FBI, FBI New York, New York State Assembly Minority, the U.S. Secret Service, as well as comedian, daytime show host Steve Harvey and musician Bruce Springsteen.

Zarrab was detained for two months in Turkey as prime suspect in a corruption and bribery scandal involving the government that went public on Dec. 17, 2013.

U.S. prosecutor Preet Bharara has been known for prosecuting 100 Wall Street executives in 2014, paving the way of an historic settlement.
