Fevzi Bağdadi / Hatay, Oct 9 () – Baby caretta carettas or lodgerhead turtles took their first steps, opened their eyes to a new life with the first light of the day, and met the Mediterranean waters in Samandağ district in southeastern province of Hatay.

The Samandağ coast, hosting endangered caretta carettas and green turtles (Chelonia Mydas), offered visitors to witness the extraordinary journey of these baby turtles in the beginning of October.

Throughout the summer season, the Samandağ Environmental Protection and Tourism Association and the Nature Protection and National Park General Administration have resumed works to boost security for baby baby carettas, as eggs began to hatch.

While the season ended after the turtles reached the sea, around 40,000 baby turtles have met the waters, exceeding the previous years’ numbers.
