Ayhan Acar / Bartın, Nov 3 () – A unique snake species called “cerastes”, known as desert viper, was seen at the Küre Mountains National Park, for the first time in the region.

The national park between provinces of Bartın and Kastamonu has been under wilder life monitoring works, in a bid to archive the fauna diversity at the national park. The sand viper was found by a wild life technician, Yusuf Ardıç, working on the natural diversity in the region.

“The role of snakes in the ecological chain is vital. The presence of the desert vipers are, therefore, important for the fauna diversity at our national park” said Director of Küre Mountains National Park Ahat Deliorman.

Cerastes is a genus of small, venomous vipers found in the deserts and semi-deserts of northern North Africa eastward through Arabia and Iran.
