Ömer Pınar / Şanlıurfa, Dec 3 () - A disabled craftsman who have been shaping woods for the last 25 years, called on persons with disabilities to meet art, as a traditional miniature model artist in historical southeastern province of Şanlıurfa.

On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 48-year-old Osman Basmacı with physical disability living off by selling decorative models told Doğan News Agency that he also wants the culture of Şanlıurfa to live, thanks to these wooden engravings.

“I do not want disabled people to imprison themselves into their houses. I want them to lean towards artistic skills” he said.

Basmacı has got meningitis after an inflammatory disease, during his childhood years.

The veteran craftsman works in his small shop since then. He merely hopes his miniature works of art to stay on shelves, in people’s houses for long years.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) has been commemorated since 1992 to promote awareness and mobilize support for critical issues relating to the inclusion of persons with disabilities in society and development.
