Istanbul, Nov 10 () - Turkey’s Press Council condemned decision for not accrediting certain press members for the G-20 Summit to be held on Nov. 15-16 in Turkey’s Antalya province.
The statement entitled “Censure is applied, this time in front of the world’s eyes” urged the efforts to block the way of accreditation applications by certain dailies such as Sözcü and Zaman and several other press members.
“We consider this situation that Turkish media has faced a contradiction, ahead of a meeting to host the leading world leaders, where the countries’ level of development will be discussed” said the statement.
Having reminded “G-20 Summit was open to the world” Press Council stressed that the events outweighed comparing to “unexplainable conflicts” in Turkish politics.
“It is every journalist’s responsibility to cover this crucial meeting. The public’s right to be informed is sacred” urged Press Council, calling on officials to remember they should inform the public by offering equal conditions to journalists for covering news.
