Felat Bozarslan / Diyarbakır, Dec 25 () - The Diyarbakır Bar commission, investigating the brutal killing of Head of Diyarbakır Bar and human rights lawyer Tahir Elçi claimed that a 17-second-long crucial camera footage marking the shooting moment was not included in the police camera recordings.
In the two separate camera footages, which were recently revealed by the Police Intelligence and Photo Film Branch Directorate, the recording was "cut right at the moment when gunshots were fired" in Sur district of Diyarbakır, claimed the Bar commission.
Owner of the camera footage, a police officer, has told he has cut the recording because he got anxious during the clashes. Diyarbakır Bar officials, on the other hand, found this statement suspicious.
Meanwhile, the investigation regarding Tahir Elçi’s murder continues, launched by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Bar urged that an independent referee should investigate the raw footage and underlined they have turned to prosecution, accordingly.
In the camera footages in question, a single gunshot is heard, while Tahir Elçi speaks to an elderly man at the crime scene. Elçi looks onto the Balıkçılarbaşı Square in Diyarbakır’s Sur district, as sounds of gunshots grow. The images are cut at the moment where the elder man leaves and Elçi looks at the clash scene.
However, the moment of gunshot that has killed Elçi were not found in the two footages.
The crucial moment might has been deleted from the recordings, which have been investigated by experts, claimed the commission.
Elçi was shot dead on Nov. 28 as he coincidentally delivered a press statement to condemn special forces teams for damaging the base of Diyarbakır’s famous Four-Legged Minaret.
