Enver Alas - Özkan Arslan, Dec 3 () - Watch of hope launched on Dec. 2 to support arrested journalists Can Dündar and Erdem Gül continues in front of the Silivri Prison where they have been hold.

The watch that was launched on Dec. 3 by veteran journalists Doğan Satmış, Press Conseil High Commission member, and Mete Akyol, Editorial Consultant for daily Cumhuriyet. Doğan Satmış was on duty in the second day of watch on Dec. 3, to promote the solidarity against their detainment.

Cumhuriyet Editor-in-Chief Can Dündar and the daily’s Ankara bureau chief Erdem Gül, have been arrested after having covered Turkish intelligence trucks bound for Syria in early 2014, on Nov. 26 in Istanbul.

The protest is expected to continue with support of the Press Council, according to Doğan Satmış.

“Children of journalists who have lost their lives have called the Press Council to tell ‘our parents would join the watch, if they were alive’. The watches will be resumed with their support as well” Satmış told reporters, during his watch.

The term of arrestments against journalists for doing their jobs should be ended, he urged, defining these acts as a threat against other journalists.

“This must be stopped. If not, Turkey would not be able to beat its status as the last country among others in the list of freedom of press across the globe” he said.

Journalism is a profession practiced alone, he said, as the pressure on freedoms also limit their economic freedom.
