Metin Faruk Tamer / Gaziantep, Feb 3 () - Islamic State (IS) militants have opened fire from Syrian town of Jarabulus at Turkish military forces doing mine clearing work in the southeastern town of Karkamış in Gaziantep, on Feb. 3.
Meanwhile, two mortar shells fired from Syria fell onto an uncultivated land in the region.
Turkish soldiers responded with fire within Turkey’s rules of border engagement, while the clashes continued because of sporadic fire from IS militants.
No casualties were reported.
Turkish forces are known to have been cleaning mines from the area in the last two weeks in preparation for erecting a border wall.
