Latif Sansür/ Muğla, Aug 17 () – In Milas district of Aegean province of Muğla, a lodgerhead turtle of Caretta Caretta nesting ground has been discovered and protected with hedges.

A Caretta Caretta that has arrived to Muğla’s Kuşadası beaches three years ago after having wandered in Dalyan coasts, is though to have laid its eggs in the Ören beach.

Officials of the Pamukkale University Sea Turtles Research Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (DEKAMER) and the Protecting the Ecosystem and Nature Lovers Association (EKODOST) have visited the ground, after having informed the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs along with protection associations of the region.

The animal lovers urged that tourism entreprises and buildings in the area pose a serious threat to these eggs and announced that they are to launch a rescue and protection operation so the baby caretta carettas could reach the sea in heatlh, after the hatching in 50 days. The sand has been compacted and the nesting ground has been hedged, in this respect.
