Yaşar Anter / Muğla, Aug 7 () – Meditereaen monk seals keep attracting visitors while sunbathing and wandering freely off the Bodrum resort town’s coast.

On Aug. 4, people have noticed a Mediterranean monk seal while catching some rays for half an hour, on a fisher pier. Later on, the monk seal turned back to its home, Mediterranean waters, said goodbye to those around who watched it without disturbing.

“In the last two months, we spotted around six monk seals” said 34-year-old fisherman Hüseyin Kandemir.

“Monk seals live freely here in Bodrum. From time to time we even feed them with fishes. These days, they also go ashore at beaches and when people are around” said Kandemir, adding that the Küdür peninsula in the province that is made of natural caves remains the most secure place for seals to shelter.
