Istanbul, Sep 1 ( ) - Turkey Journalists Federation condemned the raid over the Ipek Media Group - linked to the government’s ally-turned-nemesis Fethullah Gülen, including Bugün TV, Bugün daily and Kanaltürk TV, on Sep. 1.

The press statement of Chairman of Turkey Journalists Federation, Yılmaz Karaca, said, “This is a disgraceful incident in terms of democracy and freedom of press, and an attempt to silence the opposition with unfair and arbitrary implementations. We condemn this raid targeting to silence and threaten the free press”.

Karaca added that the fact that the operation has coincided with the recent headline of the Bugün Newspaper captioned on the same day, claiming to have documented “the illegal shipments of Turkey to Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)”.

The federation added their desire was to go to ballots in an environment where the democracy functioned with its all laws and boards.

The anti-governmant social media whistleblower Fuat Avni has recently claimed raids would be launched against oppositional media organizations in run up to snap election, boosting concerns over freedom of press.
