Istanbul, April 4 () - Consumer price index (CPI) fell by 0.04 percent in March 2016, while the inflation saw 7.46 percent on annual basis and 1.75 percent in the first quarter of the year. According to Turkstat data, the inflation was 7.96 percent on the twelve months moving averages basis. The highest monthly increase was 1.21 percent in health Turkstat data showed that the highest increase was in health with 1.21 percent. Meanwhile, indices rose for miscellaneous goods and services by 0.87 percent, for transportation 0.79 percent, for hotels, cafes and restaurants 0.65 percent and for furnishings and household equipment 0.62 percent. Also, the highest monthly decrease was observed by 1.53 percent in food and non-alcoholic beverages in March 2016. The indices declined for recreation and culture 0.28 percent and for communications 0.10 percent. Highest annual increase in alcoholic beverages and tobacco The highest annual increase was 12.79 percent in alcoholic beverages and tobacco, followed by miscellaneous goods and services with 12.39 percent, hotels, cafes and restaurants with 12.26 percent, furnishings and household equipment with 11.09 percent, recreation and culture with 9.60 percent, where high annual increases were realized. Accordingly, within average prices of 417 items in the index, average prices of 45 items remained unchanged while average prices of 245 items increased and average prices of 127 items decreased, in March 2016.
